Three years and 32,000 miles since new, and the CX-5s OE tires are worn. Not like bald or anything. But, needing new ones is on the horizon. Lovely.
A quick Google search told me this is a common issue. OE tires are usually “meh” at best. One family had a Hyundai Tuscon need new tires at 22,000 miles and Hyundai acted like that was totally normal.
Sigh. We have the money, of course (thank God for savings), but it was an expense we weren’t planning on right now. Probably won’t put those Yokohama models back on since they didn’t exactly win the longevity award.
Any suggestions? For reference, it’s a 2013 Mazda CX-5 Sport. Front wheel drive automatic.

Good michelins last a long time. Continentals have awesome grip but wear out quickly, but are less expensive. Read reviews on TireRack about any of them, but try to find reviews with a similar vehicle to yours. Some cars are worse than others when it comes to eating tires.

I’ve always found that wearing out tires was a blessing in disguise. An excuse to get something even more awesome (than OEMs).

I just got a set of Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Season Plus tires for my Subaru to replace Bridgestones that had worn out by 20,000 miles. So far they seem like great tires, and come very highly rated on tire rack. They also appear to be the OE tires for the BMW X5, Volvo XC90, and Mercedes ML.

On my FWD Hyundais I always used Kumhos (Ecstas) for summer tires and was very, very happy with them. I bought the high performance category ones so never expected more than 40K from them anyhow and got about that.

Yeah, friend of mine had a 18-month CX-5 that needed new shoes. It’s weird how quickly they go through tired / go out of alignment.
I use Yoko 580s on my Forester. Not great, not awful, and have lasted 30k miles with no trouble so far.

I’ve got Michelin Pilot SuperSports on my DS4, very expensive but really good, esp in the wet.
On the Abarth I stuck 4 Kumho Ecsta HS51's as it was desperate for tyres and our house renovations have gone erm, slighty over budget! They are amazing, quiet, lots of grip in the dry and dare I say better than the supersports in the wet, cornering and breaking, for the price I am very happy with them!

For the love of god, don’t get Pirelli P4s unless you like the feeling of skating on a road instead of gripping it. I can't wait till these things grind themselves down so I can get better ones.

The Vue had Bridgestone Duelers that lasted like 65,000 miles or something like that being regularly rotated. My parents had just changed them before we traded it in so they lasted about 7 years.
I’d just do what the others are saying and get to reading reviews on Tire Rack.

I swear by anything Michelin.
My father owes his life to a set of their ice-x snow tires, and I firmly believe the Pilot SuperSport is the best all-around performance tire on the market. I’d say go with them

I honestly forgot what we were putting on CX-5's in the 17" size. Probably Yoko Avid Ascends, although that’s what my 3 came with and they’re horrible in the wet.
The stock tires are nice and beefy, seem to handle snow just fine. We have 18k on ours now and they still have a ton of life left. Never heard any complaints about them at the dealer.
Knowing myself I would just throw on whatever is cheap that’ll last the rest of its life with you.

We put Bridgestone’s Turenza Serenity Plus on the Forester for the summertime, Hopefully they last as long as the name is... In winter we run X-Ice2. Because we swap tires last forever.
Be happy you don’t have to deal with the awd tire curse.. we lost our yokos at 20K because of a nail..

Yokohama you say? I had some on my Twingo that wore alarmingly quickly.

I put Pirelli scorpion verde plus on mine. They have been wonderful so far with descent wear and grip. They are noticeably quieter as well.

I have the Yokohama Avid somthing-or-others on my Dart and they are utter shit in the wet. I’m dreading the first accumulating snowfall we get because reviews on this tire say they are useless in the snow.
Gonna try and replace them this summer sometime with some Bridgestones or Michelins

After 10k miles on the Yokos that came with my Dart. I will never buy a set of Yokos. Utter shit doesn’t begin to describe them in the wet.

General Altimax RT43. They’re pretty cheap at $106/tire, ride nicely, and have great grip in dry, wet, and snow. MontegoMan bought them after I recommended them, and loved them.

I didn’t even chance it. Threw the Altimax Arctics from the Camry onto steelies before the first snow flew.
